ASTM A515 Flanges
1. ASTM A515 flanges made from plates.
ASTM A515 flanges denote blind flanges, slip on flanges or reducing flanges made from ASTM A515 plate material. ASTM 515 is the standard specification for pressure vessel plates, carbon steel, for intermediate- and higher-temperature service. As stipulated by ASME B16.5 and EN 1092-1, plate material is not allowed for flanges with hubs such as welding neck, slip on and socket welding flanges, etc. This is mainly to avoid potential risk of lamination flaw which could be through the wall of the hub. There are three grades under this specificated categorized according to different strength levels: Grade 60, Grade 65, Grade 70. Especially, ASTM A515 Grade 70 has the same pressure-temperature ratings as ASTM A105. The flange thickness shall be limited by the plate available which has a maximum-thickness limit of 8 inches (200mm).
