EN10253-2 Pipe Fittings: Mechanical Properties at Elevated or Low Temperatures
1. Yield Strength-Temperature correlation for EN 10253-2 pipe fittings
As generally specified in EN 10253-2, carbon steels with addition of deliberate amount of chromium, molybdenum or other alloying elements can be used in elevated temperatures. These carbon steel grades include P235GH, P265GH, P355NH. As listed in below table, all chromium-molybdenum alloy steels covered by EN 10253-2 are applicable to high temperature service. In the view of metallurgical structure, chromium(Cr) addition improves resistance to high-temperature hydrogen attack and graphitization while molybdenum(Mo) significantly increases high temperature strength as well as resistance to creep corrosion. These Cr-Mo steel grades are very similar to those steel grades stipulated by ASTM A335 alloy steel seamless pipes Grade P5, P5, P11, P22, P1, P91, P92 and butt welding pipe fittings of ASTM A234 WP5, WP11, WP22, WP12, WP91, WP911, etc. For low temperature services, charpy test is required to obtain the impact properties of the designated steel grade at certain temperatures.

2. Charpy test (low-temperature impact test) for EN 10253-2 pipe fittings
Since the nickel(Ni) addition drastically improves the fracture toughness and fatigue resistance, EN 10253-2 fittings made of steel grades 12Ni4 and X10Ni9 are ideal piping components for use in low temperature services. They are very similar to ASTM A420 pipe fittings Grade WPL6, WPL9, WPL3 and WPL8.
